What is a Treble (Alto) Recorder?

Treble recorders—also known as ‘Alto’ recorders—are pitched a fifth lower than descant (soprano) recorders and play in the f' – g''' register. With a richer, mellower tone and slightly wider finger spacing, they are often chosen as the next step for students advancing beyond beginner level.
The treble recorder is a key voice in recorder ensembles, typically taking on middle harmonies in three- or four-part arrangements. Like the descant, most modern treble recorders—including the Aulos 209B Robin—use the Baroque (English) fingering system, making the transition from descant to treble smooth for developing players.
